Cell: A novel by Stephen King

By Debora MacKenzie SOMEONE sends a signal over the cellphone network that makes listeners murderously insane. Then when others start hearing mysterious screams, they reach for… that’s right. Of course, a few phone-free Luddites survive and have to deal with emergent self-organisation among the deranged masses, cybernetic mutation, rebooting brains etc. I won’t spoil it further. This is what Stephen King does best, and this time the scientifically just-plausible doesn’t sell out to the supernatural. I couldn’t put the thing down. Cell:
